However, today I received a very disturbing e-mail from Focus on the Family talking about the persecution of Christians in Iraq. It made me wonder how the church, myself included, would handle persecution like this in the United States. Here is a portion of the e-mail and a link to the story:

From the Voice of the Martyrs: "More Christians have been killed for their faith in the 20th century than have been martyred in the total history of Christianity." Thousands of Christians are currently fleeing Iraq because of persecution from the conflicting factions within the war-torn country. Most are heading for the relative safety of neighboring Syria and Jordan. About half of the refugees leaving Iraq are Christians.

For the article click here.

The persecution of Christians around the world is a tragic reality. Our brothers and sisters are beaten and tortured simply for their faith in Jesus Christ. And some pay with the ultimate price. However, in the midst of this persecution is some of the boldest stories of faith you will ever read. Now you can learn about today's persecuted church, discover practical ways you can help, and be encouraged by their incredible stories with a FREE subscription to The Voice of the Martyrs monthly newsletter.Jason Brocknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7357140630657326870.post-41318647815552299452008-02-24T14:08:00.005-05:002008-02-24T14:24:57.110-05:002/24/08I haven't posted anything in a few days because my laptop died - literally. My wife is a photographer (shameless plug: http://www.athomephotography.net/) and we have thousands of pictures saved. I never thought I would fill up the memory of my computer, but, I found out that it is possible to do with lots of pictures!

This morning I finally finished "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand; this was quite an accomplishment on my part. The book is 1,168 pages long and it can be very tedious. Rand is amazing in her ability to predict in 1957 what our society would become. It also serves as a reminder of what our society could become. If you think your vote this fall doesn't matter, make sure you read this book! However, the anti-religous slant of the book became annoying after a while; maybe after page 753 or somewhere around that point! I agree with a lot of Any Rand's thoughts and I disagree even more with others. But, the book did challenge my thinking, and that was worth the time it took to work my way through it.

Don't forget to listen this week for more chances to win the DVD "Martian Child" starring John Cusack, Joan Cusack and Amanda Peet. In character education, that means "walking the talk," or being the person of high integrity you're helping children to become. If you would like to challenge yourself in this area check out the parents pledge.

E-mail Jason

Busy Kids
It’s pretty common to hear parents talk about racing their child from one club sport, to the next—or to an academic debate, school club or other roster of activities. For some children, adding extra-curricular activities may be due to the pressure of building a resume to get into a good college, while others feel peer pressure to hang out with a group of friends. Some parents might feel their child is “missing out” if he isn’t constantly occupied. There are various reasons, but it all adds up to overload. However, I do not bring that to the radio show because it doesn't normally lead to anything good. I am one of the few people I know that has actually enjoyed watching the numerous presidential debates. I watch the debates for both parties and I try to stay as knowledgeable about today's issues as possible.

On the blog I wanted to get your opinion regarding this presidential election. Will you back the Republican or Democratic nominee regardless of their positions? Or, will you analyze candidates issue by issue before you make your decision. I have not decided which candidate I will vote for and I don't think I will for several more months.

Take the poll on the right and share your thoughts by responding to this post. We are trying to let him do this as much as possible because he eats a lot more when he is feeding himself. However, the mess that he is making in the process is incredible! I now think that my table manners are pretty good! It's just another example of the things in life that I now delight in that I would have never slowed down enough to catch before. It is awesome what a profound impact children have on our outlook on life. It is amazing how much better our lives are when we have little feet running through the house.

Win "Martian Child" - Starring Joan Cusack, John Cusack and Amanda Peet
Listen for your chance to win a copy of the dvd "Martian Child", starring Joan Cusack, John Cusack and Amanda Peet. Now there is a scanner that helps you do this. Not only will it scan your receipts, but it's smart enough to categorize receipts into the appropriate tax categories. For instance, it recognizes American Airlines as travel, Staples as office, and more. It does business cards and documents as well. Exports files directly to TaxCut, TurboTax, or Excel.
