Home Schooling in Danger?
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today blasted a court ruling that endangered homeschooling and homeschoolers statewide.
"Every California child deserves a quality education and parents should have the right to decide what's best for their children," the governor said in a prepared statement. Casting Crowns Concert Postponed!

Last night I received several e-mails asking if the Casting Crowns concert would still happen on Saturday night. I responded with the information I had at the time and today I have been frantically trying to tell as many people as possible that the concert is postponed.

Casting Crowns will be at Freedom Hall on May 4th. If you bought tickets for the March 8th concert they will be honored at the May 4th show. The first week of May is going to be very busy. We'll have the Steamboat Race on Wednesday, Third Day on Thursday, the Oaks on Friday, the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, and Casting Crowns on Sunday! Wow, I already feel tired!

The Florida Marlins are looking for some footloose fat men. The National League team is creating an all-male, plus-size cheerleading squad to be dubbed the Manatees. Tryouts were scheduled for Sunday. The team hopes to recruit 7 to 10 tubby men to dance, cheer and jiggle during Friday and Saturday home games this season. Interested? Click here.

Christian Persecution in Iraq
Yeah, I know, this is not the normal stuff that I write about. However, today I received a very disturbing e-mail from Focus on the Family talking about the persecution of Christians in Iraq. It made me wonder how the church, myself included, would handle persecution like this in the United States. Here is a portion of the e-mail and a link to the story:

From the Voice of the Martyrs: "More Christians have been killed for their faith in the 20th century than have been martyred in the total history of Christianity." Thousands of Christians are currently fleeing Iraq because of persecution from the conflicting factions within the war-torn country. Most are heading for the relative safety of neighboring Syria and Jordan. About half of the refugees leaving Iraq are Christians.

I haven't posted anything in a few days because my laptop died - literally. Well, it is back from repair with an additional external hard drive and it works like brand new. My wife is a photographer (shameless plug: http://www.athomephotography.net/) and we have thousands of pictures saved. I never thought I would fill up the memory of my computer, but, I found out that it is possible to do with lots of pictures!

This morning I finally finished "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand; this was quite an accomplishment on my part. The book is 1,168 pages long and it can be very tedious. Rand is amazing in her ability to predict in 1957 what our society would become. It also serves as a reminder of what our society could become. If you think your vote this fall doesn't matter, make sure you read this book! However, the anti-religous slant of the book became annoying after a while; maybe after page 753 or somewhere around that point! I agree with a lot of Any Rand's thoughts and I disagree even more with others. But, the book did challenge my thinking, and that was worth the time it took to work my way through it.

A Brian Update: Honking the Nose
I was goofing off with my son Brian and I grabbed his nose (gently) and made a honking sound (like a clown). He thought it was hillarious! However, I think I have created a monster. Now, he is trying to grab the nose of anyone around him and make a honking sound. I wish I had this on video so that I could post it for you.

Trouble Sleeping?
Have you ever had trouble sleeping? I certainly have. I have even gone to the trouble of visiting a sleep center to try to fix the situation. A Brian Update - My Future Barista:
This weekend I gave my son Brian a coffee pot. I did this because I broke the basket on my old coffee pot, rendering it useless. I bought a new one Saturday night and I gave the old one to Brian. He was so delighted. For months he has watched me make coffee and he has wanted to play with the coffee pot. Or course, I would never let him touch it because it could be dangerous. Now that he has his own coffee pot he is estatic!

I am a person actively engaged in politics. However, I do not bring that to the radio show because it doesn't normally lead to anything good. I am one of the few people I know that has actually enjoyed watching the numerous presidential debates. I watch the debates for both parties and I try to stay as knowledgeable about today's issues as possible.

On the blog I wanted to get your opinion regarding this presidential election. Will you back the Republican or Democratic nominee regardless of their positions? Or, will you analyze candidates issue by issue before you make your decision. I have not decided which candidate I will vote for and I don't think I will for several more months.

Brian Update: The Mess in the Kitchen
My son has been trying his best to feed himself recently. We are trying to let him do this as much as possible because he eats a lot more when he is feeding himself. However, the mess that he is making in the process is incredible! I now think that my table manners are pretty good! It's just another example of the things in life that I now delight in that I would have never slowed down enough to catch before. It is awesome what a profound impact children have on our outlook on life. It is amazing how much better our lives are when we have little feet running through the house.
